S&D Falls in Conference Tri-Meet

DURHAM, N.C. — The Miami Hurricanes dropped head-to-head match-ups with Duke and NC State Saturday afternoon at the Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion.

Despite the end results, the Hurricanes enjoyed some solid times on the day. Sophomore Lucy Worrall turned in the second-best time of the day in the 200 Freestyle (1:53.30), while senior Sofia Johansson finished in second in the 100 Breastroke (1:04.54) to keep Miami competitive early.

Despite capturing second and third in the 200 Buterfly, as Worrall (2:05.59) and Katherine Daniels (2:07.97) performed impressively, the Hurricanes struggled to maintain momentum heading into the later stages of the day.

Sophomore diver Kara McCormack would put the Hurricanes on the right track, earning first place in both the 1-meter (290.00) and 3-meter (310.20) diving events. Lindsay Lester would add a third-place finish in the 1-meter (256.65), while Carrie Dragland finished in third place in the 3-meter portion (278.55).

Though the Hurricanes fell to both NC State (181-113) and Duke (164-133), head swimming coach Christie Shefchunas remained positive about the challenges ahead.

“We’re always gearing up towards ACC’s at the end of the season, and that’s what’s most important,” Shefchunas said.
