S&D Set for Tri-Meet with Duke, NC State
DURHAM, N.C. — After a strong showing in its dual meet with rival Florida State, the Miami Hurricanes swimming & diving team hits the road for a tri-meet with Atlantic Coast Conference foes Duke and NC State Saturday at the Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion.
The Hurricanes mark their return to the pool after a two-week layover following their dual meet with the Seminoles. Though they ultimately fell 184-115, the Hurricanes’ balanced line-up of veteran leadership and upstart youth impressed head swimming coach Christie Shefchunas.
“We don’t have a lot of depth, but we just have really good swimmers,” Shefchunas said. “We’ve got the type of swimmers that win ACC’s at the end of the season, which is what we’re always gearing towards.”
Miami is off to a 1-2 start, with its win over Houston on Oct. 13 sandwiched between losses to FGCU and Florida State. The Canes’ tri-meet with the Blue Devils and Wolfpack will serve as their first of the season and one of only two all year; the team will travel to Blacksburg, Va. and the Christiansburg Aquatic Center for a tri-meet with Virginia Tech and William & Mary in the spring portion of its 2012-13 campaign.
Duke and Miami last met in the 2009-2010 season, with the Blue Devils taking a 184-104 victory. Duke fell in its most recent match-up with Florida State, and holds a 1-2 overall record heading into Saturday’s tri-meet. NC State, who has another tri-meet Friday night before an 11 a.m. start time Saturday in Durham, holds an 0-1 overall record.
