XC Set for ACC Championships
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Universityof Miami cross country team are set to compete in the ACC Championships onSaturday at the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course at Smithfield Plantation inBlacksburg, Va. The women will run a 6k race starting at 10 a.m., followed bythe men’s 8k competition at 10:50 a.m.
“Iam expecting some good things to come from this year’s conference meet,” assistantcross country coach Damon Griffiths said. “Both teams have gotten better eachweek and will be prepared to compete their best on Saturday morning.”
Thewomen have been led all season by junior Lindsi Arrington, who posted a then-personal-bestat the ACC Championships a season ago. She will be joined in the field by juniorBrooke Dovell, senior Jennifer Estime, sophomore Julia Koch, junior AllisonLudwick, junior Alaine Tate and junior Taylor Votek.
“Ithink this can be a breakthrough race for Lindsi,” Griffiths commented. “Shehas shown that she is ready to compete with the top girls in the conference.”
Ledby junior Sean Pezzulo, the men’s team will look to improve upon its finish inprevious years. Running alongside him will be junior Luke Fontaine, freshman BertIrigoyen, sophomore JaCee Jarnigin, senior Greg Kaczka, freshman Kevin Marsh andsophomore A.J. Ricketts.
“Seanand Greg have battled through some injuries this fall, but they have been ableto carry the men’s team for most of the season,” Griffiths said.
TheHurricanes will be going up against some of the top competition in the country,as three women’s teams are ranked in the top 30 of the weekly USTFCCCA poll.Three men’s teams are also in the top 25.
