XC Travels to Black and Gold Invitational

CORALGABLES, Fla. – With the ACC Championships approaching,the University of Miami cross country teams will close out the regular season travelingto the Black and Gold Invitational on the campus of the University of CentralFlorida on Friday. It will be the first meet for UM since competing at the PaulShort Run on Sept. 28.

“Iam expecting a strong effort in our final tune up,” assistant cross countrycoach Damon Griffiths said. “There will be some of teams competing that havebeaten us. We have to focus on being a competitive in every race situation.”

TheHurricanes look to improve on their performance from their last meet at thePaul Short Run. Junior Sean Pezzuloled the men with an overall time of 25:07 in the 8k. As a team, Miami finished34th at the meet amongst a deep field. The Hurricanes will bewithout their standout runner Pezzulo this weekend. Racing for the UM will bejunior Like Fontaine, freshman Bert Irigoyen, sophomore Jacee Jarnagin, seniorGreg Kaczka, freshman Kevin Marsh and sophomore AJ Ricketts.

“Wewill be resting some of our runners this meet, but this will allow for someother runners to step up,” Griffiths said.

Onthe women’s side, junior Lindsi Arrington looks to continue her strong season.Arrington led the way for the Canes last meet finishing with a time of 21:49 inthe 5k. Along with Arrington, junior Brooke Dovell,senior JenniferEstime, sophomore Julia Koch,senior AllisonLudwick  junior Alaine Tateand freshman KellyWilliamson will run in the 5k for the Hurricanes.

TheBlack and Gold Invitational will be hosted at the University of Central Florida.The college races start at 5 and 5:40 p.m. The ACC Championships are scheduledfor Oct. 27.
