CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Behind 28 combined kills from junior Taylor Hollins and sophomore Alexis Mourning, the University of Miami volleyball team opened the 2012 season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Wofford on Friday at the Knight Complex. The Hurricanes hit .462 for the match, the second highest percentage for a match in school history.
UM took the match by the set scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16.
Hollins, moving to the front row after primarily playing from the back row in previous years, shined with a match-high 15 kills along with 10 digs to pick up her second career double-double. Mourning picked up 13 slammers of her own in 18 attempts.
On defense, junior libero Ryan Shaffer recorded 10 digs to lead Miami. Senior setter Nrithya Sundararaman notched 38 assists.
The Hurricanes will return to the court later on Friday to take on Ole Miss at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on wvum.org, with a premium video stream available at Canes All-Access. Live stats will additionally be at hurricanesports.com.
