Santana Moss caught three touchdown passes from Scott Covington in a four-minute span that bridged the halves as Miami cruised to its sixth straight win over BIG EAST Conference foe Rutgers, 53-17.
Moss caught six passes for 146 yards while increasing his team-leading TD total to six. Covington completed 21-of-30 passes for 312 yards and three scores and Edgerrin James rushed 15 times for 131 yards and two TDs for the Hurricanes, who had 569 yards of total offense.
The Scarlet Knights kept the game close in the first half but were outscored 28-7 in the third quarter. James scored on a seven-yard run with 6:08 left in the third, and defensive back Al Blades returned an interception 60 yards for a score on the final play of the quarter, giving Miami a 41-10 lead.
