CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami football team continued withtwo-a-days with a pair of two-hour workouts today at the Greentree PracticeField in Coral Gables. After practicing in shorts for the morningworkouts, the Hurricanes donned shells (shoulder pads) for the afternoonsession.
Head Coach Butch Davis was particularly impressed with the effort ofthe quarterbacks and wide receivers during the morning workout.
“The players that stood out the most this morning were the quarterbacksand wide receivers,” said Davis. “We completed more deep balls thismorning, than we have in any other practice since I’ve been here.Andre King made some spectacular catches, as did Santana Moss and DarylJones.”
Davis also praised the defensive efforts of Chad Pegues, Michael Lawson,Damione Lewis, and Derrick Ham.
“I am very impressed with the quickness of the first defensive line,”Davis said. “These players are practicing with good intensity andI am really encouraged by that.”
The Hurricanes began the afternoon practice working on special teamsbefore breaking into segment groups. Both practices concluded with7-on-7 and team drills.
Overall, Davis was very pleased with the days practice and applaudedthe hustle of the tight ends following the afternoon workout.
“The tight ends have worked extremely hard in the last couple of practices,”said Davis. “Bubba Franks, Mondriel Fulcher, Dan Smith and RobertSmith practiced exceptionally well today.”
Davis was also pleased with the effort of kicker Andy Crosland.
“Andy is nailing the ball,” Davis said. “He’s hitting the ballwell and his hang times have been outstanding. He’s driving the ballharder and hitting it with more power.”
