CORAL GABLES, FL-Aftera two-hour practice in pads today coach
Butch Davis says his team is ready for Saturday’s BIG EAST game against
13th ranked West Virginia in Morgantown.
“There is something specialabout big games,” said Davis. “You
really look forward to them. Back when the schedule comes outthere are
a handful of games that you point toward and know that if you are to
have a successful season, you need to win some of those games.We know
every year that if we are to contend for the BIG EAST title, we are
going to have to beat West Virginia. Our players are focusedand I
expect them to rise to the challenge.”
The Hurricanes enter thecontest 1-1 in conference play and 3-2
overall, while West Virginia won its only BIG EAST contest and is 4-1
overall. The Mountaineers and Syracuse (2-0) are both undefeatedin
conference play, followed by UM and Virginia Tech with one loss each.
“This is a great opportunityfor us,” added Davis. “With league
games remaining with West Virginia and Syracuse, we can control ourown
destiny. If we can run the table, we can win the league and goto a
Bowl Championship Series game.”
Tomorrow’s taping of theButch Davis Show takes place at Hooters
at The Doral, 8695 N. W. 13th Terrace. The program will be broadcastat
11:30 a.m. on WPLG (Channel 10) and SportsChannel Florida on Saturday,
October 24. Tapings are open to the public and fans are encouragedto
arrive early.
Hurricane Hotline, a two-hour,weekly call-in show featuring
Davis and athletic director Paul Dee is conducted on location at the
Longhorn Steakhouse, 1630 N.W. 87th Ave. (a.k.a. Galloway). TheHotline
can be heard on WINZ, 940 AM, Miami, every Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
