August 11, 1998CORAL GABLES, FL—University of Miami sophomore linebacker Dan Morganis one of 68 players selected to the preseason Butkus Award list.The Butkus Award is presented annually by the Orlando Downtown AthleticClub to the nation’s best collegiate linebacker.

Last season Morgan registered a team-high 105 tackles as a true freshman,including a team-leading 68 solo stops. Morgan became the first truefreshman to start at linebacker for Miami since Ray Lewis in 1993.

The Butkus Award list will be trimmed to 10 semi-finalist on October15. The three finalists will be announced on November 12, with thewinner announced on December 11.

Since the Butkus Award’s beginning in 1985, three Hurricanes (MauriceCrum, 1990; Micheal Barrow, 1992; Ray Lewis, 1995) have been finalists.
