CORAL GABLES, FL — The University of Miami Hurricanes held a two-hourworkout this afternoon at Greentree Practice Field on the UM campus inpreparation for Saturday’s game vs. No. 3 UCLA at the Orange Bowl.
The Canes are keeping a watchful eye on the skies as they preparefor Saturday’s game. As Hurricane Gorges moves through the Atlantic,University officials are closely monitoring the storm. Saturday’sgame is scheduled for 12 noon at the Orange Bowl. Contingency planswill be announced when and if appropriate.
“We had a good practice today,” commented coach Butch Davis.“We are proceeding with our normal game week routine. Players andcoaches are focused on preparing this team for UCLA. The Bruins posea good challenge and we are looking forward to playing Saturday.”
Davis announced after practice that fifth year senior, wide receiverOmar Rolle has elected to have his right shoulder surgically repaired.Rolle dislocated the shoulder during two-a-days and has been hampered bylingering effects. Rolle’s decision to have surgery will sidelinehim for the remainder of the season and ends his collegiate career.In his only appearance of the season vs. East Tennessee State, the Miaminative had two catches for 39 yards and one touchdown.
Rolle redshirted in 1994 and missed the ’96 season after undergoingreconstructive knee surgery following an off-season workout injury.For his career, Rolle appeared in 21 games, including three starts, andaveraged 11.9 yards per catch. He totaled 322 receiving yards on27 receptions, with two touchdowns.
Classes at the University of Miami have been canceled for Thursdayand Friday. The football team will practice Thursday at 10 a.m. atGreentree.
There will be no live taping of the Butch Davis TV Show thisThursday. The show will be taped on campus and is scheduled to airat its usual time, 11:30 a.m. Saturday, on WPLG, Channel 10 – Miami, andSportsChannel.
This Thursday’s Hurricane Hotline, held on location with ButchDavis and Hurricane radio network announcers Dave LaMont and Don Bailey,Jr. at the Longhorn Streakhouse, 1630 NW 87th Ave., will not be held thisweek.
