GREENSBORO, N.C. – Graduate student Miranda Wilson and sophomore Bassim El-Sabawi both were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Outdoor Track & Field Team, the conference office announced Friday. The duo also earned the honor following the indoor season.
This is the first time El-Sabawi, a sprinter from San Diego Calif., has been named to the Outdoor All-ACC Academic Team. He ran in six different events at this year’s ACC Championships, highlighted by a personal best (6.95) in the preliminaries of the 60m dash and a third place finish on the relay team in the 4x100m. Majoring in Chemistry, the sophomore hopes to become a doctor.
Wilson earned the honor for the fourth time in her career. A graduate student from Vallejo, Calif., she has been a reliable thrower for the Hurricanes on the field and a consistent student in the classroom since arriving on campus. Wilson wrapped up her career competing in the hammer throw (48.81m) at the ACC Championships in April. The aspiring doctor has a degree in Psychology and recently earned a graduate degree in Counseling Mental Health this past spring.
