Amber Monroe Represents Miami at USA Junior Trials
June 15, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Freshman Amber Monroe of the University of Miami competed at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday on the campus of Indiana University, making three attempts in the women’s discus throw. The meet brought together some of the best young talent in the country with a berth to the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain on the line.
Monroe ended her rookie season with three fouls in the discus throw, but wraps of the year with several highlights. She qualified for the NCAA Championships last week in the event and took home first place at the highly-regarded Penn Relays in April with a career-best mark of 168’ 9”/51.67m.
“It was a great learning experience to be able to compete at a national event today,” said Monroe. “I wish I would have had better aim with my throws, but I feel good about my freshman season as a whole. I just have to continue to improve and work to get better moving forward.”
Members of the Miami track & field program will next see action at the USA Olympic Trials in Eugene Ore., from June 22-30.
