Canes in the NBA
James Jones is consistently performing even with limited minutes. Right now the 3-point specialist is being used in a limited role, during pivotal points in the game and asked to produce immediate results. Against the Bulls (Wednesday, March 15) he was brought in cold off the bench with 10 seconds left in the game, Jones drained consecutive threes to pull the Heat within two. The Heat went on to lose the game, but James Jones did exactly what was asked of him; came in off the bench, knocked down a pair of threes and gave the team a fighting chance to pull out a W. In his last five games Jones is shooting 54 percent from the field, 55 percent from 3-point range and averaging 4.4 points per game.
Jones attended the University of Miami from 1999-2003. He started every game his sophomore junior and senior season with the Hurricanes and racked up a total of 1,356 points. He was picked 49th overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. He has played on four teams throughout his professional career and has now made his way back to his roots in Miami.

John Salmons has fought his way back from lingering injuries to play in all of the Kings’ games since the all-star break. He has started the last three and is now trying to prove his worth and find a permanent spot back in the starting five. In his last 10 games he is shooting 52 percent from the floor with 9.2 points per game. Coach Keith Smart envisions Salmons moving back to the point guard spot, which was the mindset originally when he was drafted into the NBA. Smart hoping that Salmons can become an effective distributer on offense to match his dominate defensive prowess.
Salmons attended the University of Miami from 1998-2002. He started 107 of 124 games while with the Hurricanes, averaging 10.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game over his four seasons. He was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs with the 26th overall pick in the 2002 NBA draft. He has featured for five franchises and now plays for the Sacramento Kings.
