Miami Falls to Seventh-Ranked Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team fell to No. 7 Wake Forest by a 4-1 score Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium. The Demon Deacons got two goals apiece from sophomores Katie Stengel and Rachel Nuzzolese, while the Canes’ lone goal came off the foot of junior Ali Brennan. Wake Forest got on the board early when Nuzzolese scored an unassisted goal in the eighth minute. The home team would not let up getting another goal in the 16th minute after Nuzzolese chipped the ball over the defense as Stengel scored her first of the match. Stengel scored again after she placed a free kick in the upper 90 in the 44th minute. In the 67th minute, Miami finally struck back after Ali Brennan’s free kick deflected off the wall into the goal. Only seven minutes later, Wake responded when Nuzzolese scored her second to give the Deacs the 4-1 lead, which would prove to be the final score. After a tough road trip which saw two loses against Top 10 teams, the Hurricanes return to Coral Gables for a match against N.C.
