CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Hurricanes offense was on full display in Monday afternoon’s scrimmage on the Greentree Practice Fields, where the White team edged the Orange team for a 34-31 victory.

Overcast skies kept the temperature down for one of the most comfortable days of the camp and the offense took advantage of the favorable conditions.

The scrimmage was divided up into four 10-minute quarters with the offenses starting drives in their own end. There were no punt or kick-off situations.

WHO WILL IT BE BEHIND CENTER
The coaching staff will have tough decisions they will have to make when it comes to setting the depth chart, particularly at the quarterback position.

Junior Jacory Harris, leading the Orange team and sophomore Stephen Morris of the White squad were a combined 39-of-57 passing for 547 yards with six touchdowns and no turnovers.

DRAMATIC ENDING
With his team down three with seven seconds remaining, Harris heaved a “Hail Mary” that was caught by Streeter for a 50-yard gain. However, a swarm of defenders were able to drag down the 6-foot-5 receiver at the one-yard line, ending the scrimmage.

GOLDEN’S RECAP

STRETCH `EM OUT
Junior wideout Tommy Streeter had another strong scrimmage. After grabbing three touchdowns in the fall’s first scrimmage, Streeter caught two more on Monday and led all players with seven catches for 148 yards.

STRONG SHOWING FROM THE TAILBACKS
Running backs Lamar Miller and Mike James each ran the ball six times in the first half for a total of 99 yards. However, redshirt freshman Darion Hall was impressive with his team-high 11 carries and a touchdown.

GOING THE DISTANCE
Junior kicker Jake Weiclaw may have solidified a starting spot as he closed the first half with a 53 yard field goal for the Orange team.

SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYER
There were several players that made great individual plays on defense, but no one stood out more than senior DE Andrew Smith. In the first half, the Coconut Creek, Fla. native hit RB Eduardo Clements in the backfield for a three-yard loss. On the very next play, he broke through the line as was able to get to Harris for a “sack”.

In the fourth quarter, Smith once again was able to sack Harris, drawing the praise of his coaching staff and teammates.
