CORAL GABLES, Fla.– The Hurricanes held their final practice of fall camp with a special teams session on the Greentree Practice Fields Saturday afternoon, where the heat index once again soared over 100.
The Canes were split up into orange and white teams with points given for made field goals. Freshman kicker Matt Goudis was drafted to the white team, while junior Jake Wieclaw was selected by the orange squad.
Each team was given a chance at five consecutive field goals to start the scrimmage. Wieclaw nailed all five of his attempts. Goudis matched his counterpart kick-for-kick and was even carried off the field by TE Dyron Dye and OL Harland Gunn when he tied the score on his final attempt.
ACCESS DENIED… AGAIN
On Tuesday, junior safety Andrew Swasey broke through the line to block a field goal attempt. Today, with his orange team leading 30-27, Swasey leapt high in the air to get a piece of Goudis’ long field goal attempt, securing the victory.
A LOT ON THE LINE
The players will not be on the field tomorrow in an effort to give their bodies a rest before the final scrimmage prior to Maryland game prep.
Head coach Al Golden has stated that the depth chart will be released soon after Monday’s scrimmage and with the travel roster consisting of only 60 players, there is plenty to play for.
BANKUNITED CANESFEST

REVISITING BEHIND THE FACEMASK
Throughout camp, we will revisit some of our favorite Behind the Facemask stories that have been running throughout the summer. Today, we’ll take a look back at Ryan Williams’ story…
“My favorite thing about being a part of the U Family is the brotherhood. All the players that come back show the love they have for the program, and show how much it means to them. How much work we put in between each other, it’s something we all know that we have to go through. We all respect each other in that fashion. It’s different. It’s something you can’t get anywhere else.”
