Hurricanes continue to fly off the board as cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke just became the fourth former Miami player taken in the 2011 NFL Draft as he was taken with the 81st overall pick by the Oakland Raiders.

DVD joins his former teammates Orlando Franklin (2nd round to Denver), Brandon Harris (2nd round to Houston) and Leonard Hankerson (3rd round to Washington) in having been selected this year.

Van Dyke was a two-sport athlete at UM, as the Miami native ran track in addition to lettering four years on the football team. From 2007-10, Van Dyke played in 50 games earned 21 starts. He closed out his collegiate career with 80 tackles, 10 pass break-ups and three interceptions.

He is now the only Cane on Oakland’s roster but he is the ninth to be selected by the Raiders all-time, with cornerback Philip Buchanon begin the last UM player taken in 2002.
