CORAL GABLES, Fla. – As campus preps for the 2011 `Canes Baseball season opener on Friday, Feb. 18, the Miami athletics web staff will be holding its first ever Social Media Day.

Miami will be the first college athletics department to `shutdown’ its official website for a full business day and communicate solely through social media platforms Facebook, Twitter, UStream, YouTube and an unprecedented 14 hours of Live Chats with Hurricane coaches and standout student-athletes.

From 8 a.m. through the final out of the Miami baseball season opener against Rutgers, the staff of HurricaneSports.com will forget its official website – HurricaneSports.com – and communicate directly with fans through 14-plus hours of live chats, tweets and Facebook posts.

An updated lineup of live chat guests is at the bottom of this article.

As Hurricane news breaks throughout the day, Facebook, Twitter & UStream will be the place to read about it, comment on it and retweet to friends and fellow Miami fans. Make sure you “Like” the Miami Hurricanes on Facebook (Direct Link) and that you are following all of UM’s Twitter accounts (complete list), but most importantly @HurricaneSports.

To cap off Social Media Day, UM will debut multi-camera broadcast coverage of every pitch from the Hurricanes season opener.  The video team behind Canes All-Access successfully tested the streaming broadcast during the Alumni Game and Home Run Derby last weekend and will take it to the free UStream platform for the Friday night game.

To access Miami’s platform during Social Media Day, simply visit the HurricaneSports.com homepage and your browser will automatically be redirected to the FUN!

Stay tuned all week as we announce the times that Miami coaches and student athletes will join the Canes Nation for Live Chats on Social Media Day.
