Hurricanes Announce Pink Zone Game and Promotions

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami will participate in Pink Zone® 2011 on Monday, Feb. 21 as they host Wake Forest and raise breast cancer awareness at the BankUnited Center.  An entire evening of events are planned to celebrate breast cancer survivors, further educate fans about breast health and raise money for breast cancer research.

The WBCA Pink Zone® initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

Wear Pink for a Discounted Ticket
Fans wearing pink can purchase a discounted $3 ticket at the Box Office on game day!

Pink Freebies
Arrive early to receive a free pink pom-pom at the entrance.  In addition, members of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will be distributing pink awareness ribbons to fans entering the game.

Survivor Recognition
Miami Athletics will honor Breast Cancer Survivors at the game.  Survivors will be recognized on-court, join the team in tunnel and receive a complimentary gift. If you or someone you know is a breast cancer survivor and would like to be the Hurricanes’ guest for PinkZone please contact Peggy Stephens at pstephens@miami.edu by Feb. 15 (Persons in the 9th-12th grade are not eligible to receive a gift).

Purchase a Pink Miami Basketball T-Shirt
Pink Miami Basketball t-shirts will be available for purchase for $10 to raise money for Sylvester Cancer Center at the PinkZone game while supplies last.  Additionally, t-shirts can be purchased in advance on-campus in the Whitten University Center Breezeway from 12-2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 14 and 15, as well as, Thursday and Friday, Feb. 17 and 18.  Shirts available while supplies last.  Sizes not guaranteed.  

Coach Meier is Kickin’ Cancer
Head Coach Katie Meier will be participating in Kickin’ Cancer by wearing custom designed shoes to raise breast cancer awareness and proceeds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. These shoes will be worn on the road at UNC on Sunday, Feb. 13, on the road at Boston College on Thursday, February 17 and at the Hurricanes’ PinkZone game versus Wake Forest at home.  You have your chance at owning Coach Meier’s one of a kind shoes by bidding on the shoes on the online auction at HurricaneSports.com beginning Feb. 14.  The auction will close on Feb. 25 and all proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Volleyball and Soccer support the Cause
Members of the volleyball and women’s soccer teams will be on hand for halftime entertainment as the two teams go head-to-head in a basketball scrimmage, wearing pink of course!  The competition for the third annual scrimmage will be heated as both teams currently hold one victory and will look to improve their record to 2-1. 

Educate Yourself on Breast Health and Breast Cancer Resources
Arrive to the game early to visit with representatives from Sylvester Cancer Center, University of Miami Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen, Zeta Tau Alpha and other organizations that will be distributing information to fans.
