Dec. 16, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami Track and Field head coach Amy Deem announced the Hurricanes’ 2012 indoor and outdoor track schedules Friday December 16. Miami is once again hosting the Hurricane Invitational and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational this season at Cobb Stadium.
The Canes face yet another arduous schedule this year, featuring trips all across the country.
“I am very excited about the 2012 schedule,” said head coach Deem. “We have a very competitive schedule that takes us across the country. We’ll see some tough competition during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.”
The indoor season begins Jan. 13-14 when the Canes travel to Lexington, Ky. to compete in the Kentucky Invitational before heading to Alabama for the Birmingham Invitational on January 26.
The men and women’s teams will then participate in the VT Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., taking place Feb. 3-4, followed by the Iowa State Classic, Feb. 9-11 and a trip to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Tyson Invitational—the final regular season indoor meet on Feb. 10-11.
The ACC Indoor Championships (Feb. 23-25) moves to Boston after being held in Blacksburg, Va. for the last two seasons.
The Hurricanes will then participate in Notre Dame’s Alex Wilson Invitational on March 2-3. The last chance for individuals to qualify for the NCAA National Championships will be at the VT Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. March 3. This season, the NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Boise, Idaho March 9-10.
Miami opens its outdoor season a week later as it hosts the first of two meets with the Hurricane Invitational, March 16-17 at Cobb Stadium on UM’s campus.
“We expect several nationally ranked teams as well as elite athletes to compete in our two home meets this spring,” added Deem.
The men and women will then travel west to Tucson, Ariz. for the Jim Click Shoot Out March 31. Returning to Florida, Miami will compete in the Florida Relays April 6-7 in Gainesville, Fla. before returning to Coral Gables for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational April 14.
The Canes will then head to Charlottesville, Va. for the ACC Outdoor Championships, April 19-21.
The Penn Relays –one of the country’s most renowned outdoor events annually– will be held at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field, April 26-28. Miami will have one final tune-up before heading to the NCAA Championships when they compete at the NC State Invitational May 13 in Raleigh, N.C. The national outdoor preliminaries in Jacksonville, Fla. (May 24-26) and the NCAA Championships (June 6-9) in Des Moines, Iowa will cap the 2012 season.
