CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team fell to the No. 5 team in the nation Thursday night, as Virginia’s Morgan Brian scored both goals in the Cavaliers 2-0 win at Klockner Stadium.

With the loss, the Canes (9-7-1, 3-6-1 ACC) narrowly miss out on the ACC Tournament, which begins at campus sites on Sunday. However, Miami’s NCAA Tournament hopes remain alive as it  sports an RPI that is ranked 24th nationally and wins over two Top-10 teams (Boston College and Maryland).

After the game’s first 79 minutes went scoreless, Virginia’s Brian scored a pair in a three-minute span. Her first came on a diving header, originally crossed by Julia Roberts. The second came unassisted, as the midfielder dribbled to the top of the 18-yard box and finished just inside the near post.

The win for the Cavaliers (13-3-2, 7-2-1 ACC) secured the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament.

Seniors Vikki Alonzo and Brooke Van Aman played in the final regular season game of their careers. Alonzo made seven saves on the night, while Van Aman started and played 80 minutes.
