Hurricanes Sign Basketball Transfer Shane Larkin
Aug. 25, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami has announced that Shane Larkin has signed an Aid Agreement to transfer to Miami and play for the Hurricanes.
The 5-11, 160-pound point guard from Orlando solidifies Larranaga’s commitment that the basketball program will aggressively recruit the state of Florida.
Larkin was ranked among the Top 20 point guards coming out of Dr. Phillips High School by Scout.com and the No. 72 overall player in the nation.
While at Dr. Phillips, Larkin led his team to a 27-6 record his senior season, with his team advancing to the state championship game for the second consecutive year. He averaged 18.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game in his final prep season. He ended his high school career with a school record 320 steals and was second in career scoring behind 2010-11 All-SEC selection Chris Warren (Ole Miss).
Larkin is the son of former Cincinnati Reds 12-time All-Star shortstop Barry Larkin.
Larkin, who committed to DePaul in 2010, was granted his release from the school earlier this month. However, he received athletic aid this summer while at DePaul, thus he holds the status of a transfer student-athlete.
Larkin must sit out a full academic year upon his arrival at UM. However, he will be eligible immediately to practice and participate in all other team activities.
