Miami's Dragland Wins Bronze Medal

Shenzhen, China – University of Miami diver Carrie Dragland won the bronze medal in the women’s synchronized 3-meter event at the World University Games on Monday inside the Shenzhen Aquatics Centre.

Along with teammate Bianca Alvarez (Miami, Fla. / Ohio State University), Dragland (Woodinville, Wash.) helped the United States women finish with the silver medal in the overall team competition. Alvarez and Dragland scored 292.50 points, finishing third behind China’s He Zi and Wang Han (334.20) and Ukraine’s Olena Federova and Anna Pysmenska (301.50).

In the individual 3-meter contest on Saturday, Dragland placed 21st overall while Alvarez finished eighth.

In the overall women’s team competition, the United States finished with 2,373.03 points, second only to China’s 2,674.18. The team score is calculated by adding each country’s scores from the four synchronized events and each country’s top two scores from the preliminaries in the three individual events.
