Viola Ready for Upcoming FINA World Championships
July 8, 2011
Coral Gables, Fla. – Former University of Miami diver Brittany Viola is finishing up preparation for next weekend’s FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. The event is being housed at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center starting July 16 and running through July 24.
Viola will be participating for the United States in the Women’s 10-meter platform event. The Orlando native and four-time UMiami All-America diver will first step onto the boards alongside teammate Jessica Parratto on Wednesday, July 20.
Viola won the 10-meter platform event at the 2011 Winter Championships in Iowa City, Iowa back in February. She turned in a qualifying score for the FINA World Championships in May during the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
The two-time NCAA champion in the 10-meter (2008, 2010) finished her UMiami career as a four-time All-American. Aside from her 2008 award, Viola is just the second female since 2000 for the Hurricanes’ diving program to claim a national title (Jenny Keim) – and just the fourth female diving national champ overall for the program.
