Ronderos Named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Maria Ronderos has been named to the 2011 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. It is the fourth-straight year Ronderos has earned the honor.
The senior excelled both in the classroom and on the golf course, being one of six golfers to earn spots on the All-ACC and the All-ACC Academic teams.
“I want our players to be the best that they can be in academics and in golf,” said head coach Patti Rizzo. “Maria is a gem – she’s a great student, a great player and a kind person. This is a well-deserved honor for her.”
Ronderos graduated last month with a degree in Architectural Engineering.
The Colombia native had one of the best individual seasons in program history, recording the seventh-lowest stroke average in school history (74.68). She also registered seven top-10 finishes, including a season-best third place finish at the Eagle Landing Invitational in March.
Ronderos’ play earned her an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional in Daytona Beach, Fla. – the first Hurricane to advance as an individual since 2003.
Wake Forest’s Natalie Sheary took the honor as ACC Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
