Benjamin Returns to the Track for North Florida Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Five members of the University of Miami men’s track and field team will have one last chance to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round when they compete in the North Florida Invitational this Friday and Saturday at UNF’s Hodges Stadium Track and Field Facility in Jacksonville.
Devon Hill will get things started for the Canes Friday at 6 p.m. in the preliminary heat of the 110m hurdles. Hill currently holds the nation’s 15th fastest time in the event at 13.66 seconds, the Trenton, N.J. native’s ACC title winning time. If Hill finishes among the top 8 competitors, he will race in Saturday’s final at 2:55 p.m.
Freshman sprinter Bassim El-Sabawi – owner of Miami’s season-best time in the 100m dash at 10.81 seconds – will be running in the 100m prelim at 6:20 p.m. The finals are scheduled for Saturday at 3:35 p.m.
Travis Benjamin will be joined by fellow football players Brandon McGee and Lamar Miller as three-fourths of the 4×100 relay team that will compete on Saturday at 2 p.m. Hill or El-Sabawi will run the remaining leg as the squad will look to improve on their season-best time of 40.56 seconds in order to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, held this year at Indiana University May 26-28.
