Coral Gables, Fla.-The Miami Hurricanes finished up day one at the Knecht Cup with positive results, and look to build upon them tomorrow at the final day of the Regatta in Camden, N.J.

The Varsity 8+ competed against ACC rivals UNC and Duke, jumping out to an early lead in the race. Duke ended up winning the heat, but Miami beat out a charging Temple by a second to secure a second-place finish and a spot in the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, the ‘Canes had a rematch with Old Dominion, who had beaten them by 10 seconds just a week ago. Miami made tremendous progress, finishing up only three seconds behind ODU. Miami finished third overall in the heat, and will race in the B-level finals tomorrow.

The Novice 8+ had a good day of racing, advancing out of their heat and will race in the A-level finals tomorrow.

“They all raced with composure beyond their years and deserve credit for some fine racing as a crew,” said Head Coach Andrew Carter.

The Novice 4+ took on some tough competition, and was not able to advance to the next heat. Although they did not move on, they gained valuable race experience.

The Knecht Cup concludes tomorrow, with the final heats taking place. Each race is a separate event., so no one University will be crowned the win.
