April 5, 2011
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will celebrate its historic season with a postseason banquet in the Hurricane 100 Room at the BankUnited Center on Tuesday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m.
The 2010-11 Hurricanes had one of the best seasons in program history, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004 and winning its first tourney game in 18 years.
After leading her `Canes to an impressive turnaround, in which Miami went from a 12-seed in the 2010 ACC Tournament to the conference regular season championship this year, head coach Katie Meier was named the Associated Press National Coach of the Year.
Junior Shenise Johnson earned four separate All-America honors, including being named to the prestigious WBCA/State Farm Coaches’ Team. Johnson’s fellow junior teammate Riquna Williams earned several national honorable mention nods and was the ACC’s scoring champion with 21.7 points per game.
Johnson and Williams each were named First Team All-ACC, while sophomore Morgan Stroman was named to the third team.
The `Canes finished the season with a 28-5 record – their only losses coming on the road or at neutral sites against ranked opponents. For just the second time in program history, Miami finished the season undefeated at home – winning all 20 games and extending its home win-streak to 24 games.
