MIAMI – Former University of Miami track star Yolanda McCray was one of eight individual greats that were inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame Thursday night at Jungle Island.

“I am extremely grateful to receive this honor from one of the most prestigious colleges in the world,” said McCray, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to her military commitments with the U.S. Army.

McCray was just the third woman in program history to win an NCAA National Championship, claiming the 1999 title in the 100m hurdles in 12.85 seconds – a school record until current track star Ti’erra Brown ran a 12.84 this past summer at the NCAA Championships.

“Yolanda exemplifies the true meaning of a student-athlete at the University of Miami,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “She was a tenacious, dedicated and fierce competitor.”

In all, McCray earned All-America honors six times, including three in the 100m hurdles. She ranks second in school history in both the 55 and 60m hurdles with times of 7.54 and 8.04 seconds respectively.

“Yolanda was instrumental in moving our track and field team into national prominence ,” added Deem.
