CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s track and field team is ranked 18th in the first U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTCCCA) outdoor computer rankings of the season.

The first three outdoor rankings combine the best results from returning student-athletes from last season along with results from the current season.

Based on last year’s results, senior Ti’erra Brown anchors the ranking for the ‘Canes as she holds the No. 1 individual spot in both the 100 and 400m hurdles with times of 12.74 and 54.74 seconds respectively.

“We are really excited to start the outdoor season in the Top 25,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “We feel that we have a strong outdoor team that is anchored by our hurdlers.”

Senior Takecia Jameson, who earned All-America status along with Brown in the 400m hurdles, is ranked 14th in the event with a time of 57.58 seconds.

Tarika Williams and Ashley Dukes are each ranked in the 100m dash and Megan Novinger enters her final season as the 29th-ranked high jumper with a career-best mark of 1.77m (5-09.75).

Freshman Thandi Stewart is the lone student-athlete on Miami’s roster who has a ranking based on this year’s results. The Richmond, Calif. native won the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.87 at the season opening Hurricane Invitational.

“After finishing 11th at the NCAA Championships last season, I feel that we have a great chance to compete for a Top 10 result this season,” added Deem.

Miami continues its outdoor season in the Sunshine State as it heads to Orlando to participate in the UCF Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
