Hurricanes Open Season at Clemson Challenge

CORAL GABLES, Fla. –
The Hurricanes Track and Field team will head to South Carolina to open their 2011 indoor season with the Clemson Challenge quad meet on Saturday with Miami also competing against Auburn and Georgia.
The field events are set to begin at 11 a.m. with running events set to start at 12 p.m.
“We are very excited to open our indoor season,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “Our student-athletes have been training hard since September and are looking forward to competing.”
The Miami women enter the 2011 season as the No. 25 ranked team in the nation according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s computer rankings. The Clemson and Auburn women are ranked fifth and seventh respectively in the season’s first rankings.
Senior sisters Tameka Jameson and Takecia Jameson earned All-America honors last season in the 400m hurdles and both are scheduled to compete on Saturday. Takecia will run in the 60m hurdles and Tameka will kick-off the new season in the 400m dash. Both women may compete in the 4×400 relay.
Ashley Dukes, the ACC’s defending champion in the 60m dash will compete in her best event, with prelims at 12:40 p.m. and the finals at 2:10 p.m.
The men will be led by Devon Hill – the Hurricanes’ record holder in the 60m hurdles. The junior will compete in that event as well as a member of the 4×400 relay.
Auburn and Georgia are both ranked on the men’s side at Nos. 11 and 14 respectively.
Both teams will feature a combined 11 freshmen who will be competing in their first ever collegiate track meet, including distance runner Brooke Dovell – winner of two cross country races in the fall and the `Canes No. 1 finisher all season.
