CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s track and field team will open its indoor season on Jan. 14 at the Clemson Invitational and will do so as the nation’s 25th-ranked squad according to the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The USTFCCCA’s first computer rankings of the year include marks of returning student-athletes from last indoor season. The next three rankings will include both the best marks from last season and ones from the upcoming 2011 season.

“I feel like this is a very talented team and we are excited about the indoor season,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem.

Seniors Ti’erra Brown and Takecia Jameson as well as junior Brittni Finch each played a big role in ensuring Miami’s No. 25 ranking. Each reached the minimum ranking standard in two different events. Brown in the 400m dash (53.34) and the 60m hurdles (8.00), Finch in the long jump (6.30m, 20-8.00) and the triple jump (12.52m, 41-1.00) and Jameson in the 200m dash (23.82) and the 60m hurdles (8.42).

Brown ended the 2010 indoor campaign with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Championships – claiming her third All-America honor. The Hampton, Va. native earned her fourth and fifth All-America awards after runner-up finishes during the outdoor national championships in the 100 and 400m hurdles.

“Our leadership among the upperclassmen is very strong,” added Deem. “We also have a very talented group of newcomers that are eager to begin their collegiate careers.”

Last year’s ACC champion in the 60m dash (7.33), Ashley Dukes also helped the `Canes claim its ranking, along with Tameka Jameson’s performance in the 400m dash (53.84).
