CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami football team held a brief 45-minute walkthrough Tuesday morning in anticipation of the squad’s second closed scrimmage of camp scheduled for Wednesday night at Traz Powell Stadium.

The `Canes worked under warm conditions with crowd noise being pumped in during the majority of the session on the Greentree Practice Fields. After spending the early part of the practice in punt and group drills, the team came together to run two-minute drills the rest of the way.

Practice Highlights

Offensively, A.J. Highsmith successfully drove the `Canes down the field in the two-minute drill, connecting on intermediate passes to Lamar Miller, Aldarius Johnson and Chase Ford to set up a field goal by Jake Wieclaw. On the defensive side, linemen Marcus Robinson and Olivier Vernon each got into the backfield and forced errant throws by the quarterback.

O vs. D

The offense and the defense split the two-minute drills on Tuesday, with the offense winning two and the defense winning two. The defense didn’t allow a touchdown during the four sessions, but the offense was able to work its way into field goal range, successfully converting both opportunities.

Special Teams Work

More emphasis is being placed on special teams as camp rolls on and it was evident today as punts and field goals were a main focus. All-ACC kicker/punter Matt Bosher boomed a handful of punts early on before later connecting on a 50-yard field goal during a two-minute drill. Jake Wieclaw’s field goal in a two-minute drill came from about 35 yards out.
