Miami’s run through the WNIT continued as it faced its former BIG EAST foe Providence on Sunday. As has been the case all season, the ‘Canes relied on the sophomore duo of Shenise Johnson and Riquna Williams. Johnson had a career day as she scored 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, her 10th double-double of the season. Williams scored 24 points and hit four three-pointers in a three minute span to erase a nine-point deficit. Both of the All-ACC performers hit four three pointers in the game.
The Hurricanes have won their first four games of this season’s WNIT. Coming into the year, Miami had never won even two postseason games. In her fifth year, head coach Katie Meier has guided the ‘Canes to the ninth 20-win season in program history and the first since the 2003-04 season, when UM advanced to the NCAA tournament.
