UM Divers Complete Day One of Texas Invitational

Austin, Texas – Freshman Thea Vock finished second in the women’s 3-meter springboard on Thursday, leading a trio of University of Miami divers competing in first day action at the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame Invitational at UT’s Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.

Vock, a native of Clermont, Fla., was in seventh place after the preliminary round of dives, and battled back to score 337.45 points in the finals – collecting second place. Junior transfer Carrie Dragland (Woodinville, Wash.) finished 14th in the event, registering 258.05 points.

On the men’s side, freshman Samuel Dorman (Tempe, Ariz.) scored an eighth place finish in the men’s 1-meter springboard, scoring 246.40 in the finals. Dorman, the only male diver on the UM roster this year under veteran head diving coach Randy Ableman, sat third after the prelims with a score of 300.95.

Two-time NCAA National Champion David Boudia of Purdue finished first with a score of 428.45.

Action continues tomorrow for the UM divers on both the men’s and women’s side of things.
