GAMEDAY
The University of Miami women’s basketball team will pack its bags for it first road game of the season when it heads to No. 21 Nebraska on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 8:05 p.m. EST at the Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
TICKETS
Season tickets are available for as low as $50. Tickets may be purchased online at HurricaneSports.com or by calling the UM Ticket Office at 1-800-GO-CANES.
Single-game tickets are also available for $5 for all fans. UM students receive free admission when presenting their valid Cane Card.
THE TEAMS
The game on Wednesday will be the third meeting between Miami and Nebraska, with the Huskers claiming each of those games.
The Hurricanes are one of 23 teams that received votes in the AP Poll and were chosen to finish eighth in the ACC Preseason Poll after finishing last season with a 22-14 record and an appearance in the WNIT Championship Game.
With its largest margin of victory (54 points) since Nov. 25, 2002, Miami defeated Kennesaw State in its season-opener 93-39.
Nebraska must replace six seniors, including three first-team All-Big 12 selections led by first-team All-American Kelsey Griffin. The 2010 Big 12 Player of the Year was the No. 3 overall
pick in the 2010 WNBA Draft and a WNBA All-Rookie selection.
The Huskers defeated Vermont in their season and home-opener by a score 0f 95-38. The team made a program-best 17 three pointers in the contest – five from Lindsey Moore.
THE COACHES
Katie Meier is 73-84 in her sixth season at Miami and is 149-129 overall. She signed a five-year contract extension in the offseason after leading the `Canes to the WNIT Championship game and a 2009-10 record of 22-14.
Connie Yori returns for her ninth season as the head coach of the Nebraska women’s basketball program. Yori has posted a 154-99 record for a .607 winning percentage.
THREE-POINT STREAK
With four threes against Kennesaw State, the Hurricanes have made at least one three-point field goal in 293 straight games dating back to the 2000-01 season –
currently the 11th-best active streak in the nation.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE
The Hurricanes led the ACC with 22
double-doubles last season. After just one game they seem to picking up where they left off as Riquna Williams, Shenise Johnson and Morgan Stroman all recorded double-doubles against Kennesaw State. Virginia is the only other school in the conference with three double-doubles.
`CANES INK THREE TO 2011 CLASS
The Hurricanes have signed Michelle Woods of Naples, Fla., junior college transfer Jessica Capers of Gastonia, N.C. and Tyler Hobgood of Oxford, N.C. to their 2011 incoming class.
Woods, out of Naples Community School has been ranked as high as the No. 44 overall prospect by ESPN HoopGurlz and as the 10th best shooting guard by All Star Girls’ Report.
Capers signed to play at West Virginia in 2007, but a knee injury sidelined her for her freshman season. During the Mountaineers’ 2009-10 campaign, the 6-2 forward saw action in 18 games, but she decided to transfer to Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Fla. at the conclusion of the season.
Capers is ranked as the No. 3 overall junior college power forward in the country and 10th overall JC prospect according to the Dan Olson Collegiate Report.
Hobgood, a 6-1 power forward from JF Webb High School enters her senior season with a long list of accolades. She has already been named an all-conference performer on three occasions and has led her league in rebounding each of the last three seasons. Behind her aggressive play, JF Webb has won its conference’s regular season championship three straight years.
ACC PRESEASON POLL
The University of Miami was selected eighth in the ACC Women’s Basketball Preseason Poll released on Oct. 26.
Duke was selected as the as the preseason favorite to win the 2010-11 ACC regular season title for the first time since 2005. The Blue Devils earned 24 of the possible 33 first-place votes.
North Carolina was picked second, followed by Florida State and Maryland. Georgia Tech was tabbed to finish fifth in front of NC State and Boston College. Following Miami was Wake Forest Virginia, Virginia Tech and Clemson.

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
The University of Miami will be hosting two different Tournaments this season at the BankUnited. Nov. 26-27, the `Canes will host the Women’s Basketball Thanksgiving Tournament and Dec. 28-30 the `Canes will host the Women’s Basketball Holiday Classic.
1,000 POINT CLUB
Late last season Shenise Johnson became the 20th player in Miami history to score 1,000 points in a career. She ended her sophomore season with 1,069 point – currently ranking as the 16th most prolific scorer in school history.
With 934 career points (707 in 2009-10 – the third-best single season total in school history), Riquna Williams is up next to crack the 1,000 point barrier.
JOHNSON PRESEASON ALL-ACC
Miami guard Shenise Johnson was named to the Preseason All-ACC team as announced by the conference office on Oct. 26 from the ACC Women’s Basketball Media Day held at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Johnson becomes the first Hurricane since Tamara James in 2005 to be named a preseason all-conference member.
Duke’s Jasmine Thomas was named the Preseason Player of the Year.

FIFTH-ANNUAL YOUTH DAY
The University of Miami welcomed elementary and middle school children to be a `Cane for a Day at Youth Day at the `Canes home-opening win over Kennesaw State.
The School of Education, the President’s Office, Big Cheese and McDonald’s teamed up to provide a fun-filled day for local youth and to express the importance of education. Schools had the opportunity to showcase their cheerleaders or dance teams, as well as, nominate an Honorary Ball Kid that was recognized on court.
The future Hurricanes were treated to special halftime entertainment as Sebastian rounded up several of his friends and played a friendly game of hoops.
