Hurricanes Set to Host Virginia Tech on Senior Night

Oct. 20, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team will honor its five seniors prior to Thursday’s game against Virginia Tech at Cobb Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.

Miami (9-5-1, 3-3-0 ACC) and Virginia Tech are currently seventh and eighth in the conference standings, respectively. With the Top 8 teams making the conference tournament and likely the NCAA Tournament – Thursday night’s game could have huge implications for post season play.

The Hurricane seniors have seen their team reach the NCAA Tournament twice and would like nothing more than to make a run for a third time.

Brittney Steinbruch – the program’s all-time leading scorer, leads the `Canes with seven goals and four game-winners on the season. The team’s most dominant defender, Brittney Macdonald also has found a scoring touch this season – scoring a career-best three goals.

Virginia Tech (8-6-1, 2-3-1 ACC) is led by Kelsey Billups, who has six goals on the season. However, the Hokies also feature four more players that have scored three or more goals on the year.

Dayle Colpitts has started all 15 matches in goal for Virginia Tech and has recorded three shutouts on the season.

Seniors Steinbruch, Macdonald, Barbara Blocker, Katie Oddo and Lauren Singer will be honored in a pregame ceremony.

Fans in attendance will have the chance to win several prizes, including a team autographed poster and soccer ball as well as one of many Miami Soccer t-shirts. Tickets can be purchased for $3 for children and $5 for adults at the Cobb Stadium gate one hour prior to kick-off. University of Miami students receive free admission with their `Cane Card.

For those fans following Miami women’s soccer on facebook and twitter, a trivia question will be posted the morning of the match. Listen to the public address announcer’s prompt and if you are among the first three with the correct answer, you will win a prize.

HurricaneSports.com will feature a live gameday chat for fans to follow at home or in the office. To participate in the in-game chat below, return to this page 30-minutes prior to kick-off. Live stats will also be available at HurricaneSports.com .
