Hurricanes Fall at No. 2 North Carolina
Oct. 17, 2010
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team dropped its first road Atlantic Coast Conference game of the season with a 5-0 loss to No. 2 North Carolina Sunday at Fetzer Field.
Amber Brooks and Kealia Ohai each scored two goals for the two-time defending national champions as the Tar Heels (13-1-1, 5-1-0 ACC) scored three goals in the opening half and two more after the break for the victory. Courtney Jones also scored for the home team.
Carolina did a great job finishing chances and putting us on our heels,” said head coach Tricia Taliaferro. “I think they are too talented to give the amount of space that we did and they punished us for that mistake.”
Miami (9-5-1, 3-3-0 ACC) had opportunities to get on the board in the opening period, with none better than when freshman Tara Schwitter beat the UNC keeper with a left-footed shot deep inside the box. However, the shot hit the right post and deflected away.
This experience will only make us better,” added Taliaferro. “We recognize the specific areas for improvement and will be ready for Thursday.”
On Thursday, the Hurricanes will play host to Virginia Tech on Senior Night. Seniors Barbara Blocker, Brittney Macdonald, Katie Oddo, Lauren Singer and Brittney Steinbruch will be honored in a pregame ceremony. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
