Women's Basketball Fantasy Camp Filling Up Fast
Oct. 15, 2010
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – In August, it was announced that head coach Katie Meier and the women’s basketball team would be holding a Fantasy Camp on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at the Basketball Field House. With only a few days remaining before the event, few spots remain.
The coaching staff and players will take campers through several different drills in an effort to enhance basketball fundamentals and team building techniques.
Anyone that is 21 or older can attend the event that is set to run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The evening will conclude with a choice to play in a 5-on-5 or 3-on-3 pick-up game. Celebrity coaches that will head the teams include Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt, Senior Women’s Administrator Connie Nickel, head coaches Jim Morris (Baseball), Amy Deem (Track and Field), and assistant coaches Jeff Freeman (Soccer) and Joe Mercadante (Baseball).
Some campers have already been talking about the special opportunity they will experience on Wednesday.
“I am ready to blow by Coach Keiger and dunk on Coach Meier,” said the University’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Joe Natoli. “The older I get, the better I was. I can’t wait to hear the sound of squeaky sneakers on the hardwood.”
Natoli isn’t the only high profile camper that will be attending, UM’s Dean of Students Ric Hall will also be showing off his skills. “I heard Joe Natoli is playing, so I’m just hoping to touch the ball a few times.”
Hall added, “I’ve been looking forward to this Fantasy Camp since Coach Meier first dreamed it up. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season and this is an excellent opportunity for hoops fans to experience some of the excitement!”
