Miami Set for Hatter Invitational in DeLand on Friday

Oct. 14, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country team is fresh and ready to get back on the course at Stetson’s Hatter Invitational on Friday in DeLand, Fla. The women’s team will run a 5K race at 5 p.m., with the men following on their 8K track at 5:40 p.m.

The Hurricanes have enjoyed a great start to their 2010 season and with only two more regular season meets left, will look to close out on a hot streak.

Freshmen have led the way to this point with Brooke Dovell and Connor Adams trying to keep that trend going heading into Friday’s races. Each newcomer has been the top-finisher for their respective squad in the first three races of the season – Dovell even earned ACC Performer of the Week honors after the season opener (Sept. 6).

The women will send their largest contingent of runners this season to DeLand as 11 `Canes will tackle the 5K course. Joining Dovell will be fellow freshmen Lindsi Arrington, Cristine Brea and Danielle Glynn. However, the ladies will also travel with some veteran leadership as seniors Katharine Woodard, Emma Steppe and Caitlin Knapp will make the trip.

Allison Ludwick and Anna Bona placed among the Top 5 finishers in the their last meet and will look to keep their momentum from the Greater Louisville Classic (Oct. 2).

The men will travel with eight runners, with senior Charles Michel as the only upperclassman. Along with Adams, freshmen Sean Pezzulo, Phil Wood, Luke Fontaine and Michael Coogan will be joined by sophomores Greg Kaczka and Damon Campbell.

Race results will be available online and can be seen by clicking here.
