RALEIGH – The University of Miami women’s soccer team remained perfect on the road in Atlantic Coast Conference play as it defeated NC State by a 2-0 score Thursday night at Dail Soccer Field.

Senior Brittney Steinbruch scored the game-deciding goal in the 61st minute after picking up a loose ball and firing her shot into the upper left corner. The goal was the seventh on the season for the school’s all-time leading scorer.

Freshman Kelley Griffin scored her second goal on the year and the `Canes second goal of the game in the 83rd minute when Steinbruch’s through ball reached her in time to beat the charging goalie.

NC State controlled possession in the first half and outshot the `Canes 8-3. However, Vikki Alonzo stood tall in goal – making five saves in the opening period.

In the second half, Miami applied more offensive pressure and capitalized on its opportunities and Alonzo made three more saves for her sixth shutout of the season.

With her goal and assist, Steinbruch extended her career school record to 78 points.

Prior to the season, the Hurricanes teamed-up with UM alum Kristen Kenney’s MALAIKA FOR LIFE organization in Scoring Goals to Save Lives. The premise of the initiative sees the soccer program donate $10 to the charity for every goal scored throughout the season. The two goals from the `Canes increased this season’s total to $270.

Miami’s 27 goals as a team already rank as the seventh-best total in team history with five regular season games still remaining.

NC State dropped to 7-8-0 on the season and 1-5 in conference play.

The Hurricanes (9-4-1, 3-2-0 ACC) now have won both of their road contests in league play and will look to extend that streak to three when they face defending national champion North Carolina this Sunday at 1 p.m. in Chapel Hill.
