Meet Women's Soccer Freshman Kelley Griffin

Aug. 13, 2010

CORAL GABLES –

In the third of a four-part series, freshman Kelley Griffin sits down with HurricaneSports.com to tell ‘Canes fans how her move to South Florida has been so far.

Why did you choose Miami over the other school’s that recruited you?

I chose the University of Miami because of its incomparable reputation, both in athletics and academics.

What are some of the goals that you have for yourself and as a team this season?

The goals for myself this season are to work as hard as I possibly can to help contribute to the team’s success.  My goals for the team are to make the NCAA tournament and win a national championship.

After being in Miami for a little while now, what do think of the city? Any surprises?

Miami is great! There’s always something new and exciting to do. I have yet to be bored

Of the veteran players on the team, who do you look up to or who has been most helpful to you so far in making the transition to college?

To be honest, I really look up to all of the upperclassmen.  They have all been so nice and welcoming to us freshmen and have been really supportive with everything, which has made the transition easy and fun.

Who was the first teammate you met and what was your first impression of them?

I did my official visit with Hannah and she was great! She was so nice and easy to get along with, which made me a lot more comfortable and excited about being a part of the team.

Is there something interesting about you that not many people in Miami know?

Well I’m from New Hampshire…that’s not really that interesting but I guess it’s something that some people don’t know.

Have you seen any celebrities since you have been in Miami?

Willis McGahee ran with us a couple times which was really cool!

Now that you have been a Miami resident for a few weeks, what advice would you give to LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade?

I would tell them to hook the soccer team up with some free tickets! But, that’s against the rules, so I wouldn’t actually do that.

What is something that you really want to do in Miami but haven’t had the chance to do yet?

Well the freshmen and I have a whole list of things we would like to do, but one in particular is to be invited to someone’s house on Star Island.

Do you have any pre-game rituals that you always have to do?

Not really.
