June 11, 2010

EUGENE, Ore. –  Ti’erra Brown earned a spot in the 100m final after a strong semifinal performance Thursday at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field in the second day of competition of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

A day after she qualified for the 400m hurdle national championship race, junior Ti’erra Brown – the No. 2-ranked 100m hurdler – placed first in the third and final 100m hurdle semifinal heat, with a time of 12.74 seconds.

Brown, along with Takecia and Tameka Jameson and Kristy Whyte also competed in the 4×400 relay. The foursome narrowly missed advancing to the finals, as they placed 10th with a time of 3:36.27 – the third-fastest time of the season.

However, both of the Jameson sisters and Brown will vie for the national title in the 400m hurdles on Friday at 8:15 EST. The teammates are the first three women from the same program to compete in the event’s national championship race.

On Wednesday, Brown and Tameka Jameson finished first and second respectively in the second of three 400m hurdle semifinal heats with times of 56.02 and 57.16 seconds. Takecia Jameson qualified in the third heat, by placing second at 57.16 seconds.

In her final collegiate meet, senior Deandra Doyley placed 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 12.86m (42-02.25). In her Miami career, the Lauderdale Lakes native became the first Hurricane to earn all-conference honors if four different ACC Championships.

Another senior for the Hurricanes, Cory Nelms, also participated in his last collegiate event. The Neptune, N.J. native placed 15th in the national semifinal of the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.84 seconds. Earlier this season, Nelms won the 110m hurdle conference title.
