Sixteen `Canes Qualify for NCAA Track and Field Preliminary Round

CORAL GABLES – Sixteen members of the University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams have been accepted into the field for the Preliminary Round of the NCAA Cahampionships. Ten women and six men will compete in the East Regional Preliminary Round May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

Under the first-year format being used for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championships, the top 48 declared athletes in each of two regions were accepted into the field to compete in the Preliminary Rounds. The top 12 finishers in each event at each of the two regional sites will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.

Members of the No. 12-ranked team that will make the trip to North Carolina, with their events in the East Region field, include: Ti’erra Brown (100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4×400), Deandra Doyley (long jump, triple jump), Ashley Dukes (4×100), Brittni Finch (long jump), Charlene Fuller (100m, 4×100, 4×400), Takecia Jameson (4×100, 4×400), Tameka Jameson (400m hurdles, 4×100, 4×400), Megan Novinger (high jump), Kristy Whyte (100m, 4×100, 4×400), Tarika Williams (100m, 4×100, 4×400).

For the men’s team, the following student-athletes will compete in Greensboro: Travis Benjamin (4×100), Devon Hill (110m hurdles, 4×100), Brandon McGee (4×100), Lamar Miller (4×100), Cory Nelms (110m hurdles, 4×100), DeMarcus Van Dyke (4×100).
