Miami Opens 2010 Outdoor Season With Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami track and field teams open their outdoor schedule hosting the Hurricane Invitational, Friday-Saturday, March 19-20 at Cobb Stadium.
Sixteen universities from around the country will be represented at the first meet of the 2010 outdoor season, including ACC foe Virginia Tech, Texas of the Big 12, Connecticut of the BIG EAST and Wisconsin of the Big 10.
Just six days ago at the NCAA Indoor National Championships – Ti’erra Brown earned her third All-America honor, placing third in the 60m hurdles. In the preliminary heat, the junior set a new school record by running an 8.00. Brown is scheduled to make her outdoor debut in the 100m hurdles, Saturday at 2 p.m.
Also garnering indoor All-America honors last weekend was sophomore jumper, Brittni Finch. With a leap of 6.06m (19-10.50), Finch became the 11th Miami athlete to earn indoor All-American honors in the long jump. Joining her in the long jump will be the Christina Madry.
Ashley Dukes, who missed most of the last two seasons, had a huge indoor campaign for herself this year. She won the ACC Championship in the 60m dash with a time of 7.34 seconds and competed in the NCAA National Championships. The Hollywood, Fla. native is scheduled to run a leg of the 4×100 relay.
Both Takecia and Tameka Jameson will be competing in the 200m dash – scheduled for Saturday at 4:20 p.m. Tameka is also set to take on the field in the 400m dash.
The 2008 ACC Outdoor Track Performer of the Year, Kristy Whyte, will join the Jameson twins in the 200m dash while also competing in the 100m dash earlier Saturday afternoon.
Megan Novinger will be the first Hurricane to compete, as she is scheduled to participate in high jump, Friday at 3 p.m.
Five women will compete in Friday evening’s 5,000m run at 7:20 p.m., as Anna Bona, Casey Crist, Caitlin Knapp, Nehali Patel and Emma Steppe will close out the first day of events.
The men will be led by sophomore Devon Hill, who won the ACC Championship in the 60m hurdles in February. He will compete in the 110m hurdles as well as make an appearance for a leg of the 4×400 relay.
Brian Laskowski, who ran an indoor team-best time of 1:52.33 in the 800m, will compete in the event on Saturday as well as run a leg in the 4×400 relay.
Damon Campbell and Matthew Wilson will kick-off the running events on Friday as they both compete in the 3,000m steeple chase. Charles Michel will run in the 5,000m run, Friday evening at 7 p.m.
