Women's Golf Sits in 8th after Day One of Hurricane Invitational

MIAMI LAKES, Fla. – Sophomore Jennifer Hirano and freshman Shelby Gilbert each shot two-over par 74 and the University of Miami women’s golf team sit in eighth place after day one of the Hurricane Invitational at Don Shula’s Golf Resort Sunday.
Miami is eighth with a team score of 306, which leaves the Hurricanes three strokes out of the top three. Georgia State leads the tournament at four-over par 292 followed by Coastal Carolina (296), San Diego State (303), East Tennessee State (304) and NC State (304) round out the top four.
Jennifer Hirano shot two-over par 38 on the first nine holes before shooting even-par 36 on the back nine. Gilbert shot one-over par 37 on both the front and back nine. Both are currently tied for 10th place among the 90 golfers.
Junior Christina Hirano and sophomore Begona Sarabia each shot seven-over par 79. Junior Maria Ronderos shot eight-over par 80.
The second round of the tournament is slated to tee off at 12:30 p.m. Monday.
