Hurricanes Shenise Johnson Invited to Try-Out for Team USA

CORAL GABLES – University of Miami women’s basketball player, Shenise Johnson was invited to the USA Basketball Complex in Colorado Springs, Colo. to participate in the U-19 USA National Team Trials, May 14-17.
The U-19 National Team will be participating in this year’s FIBA World Championship, held in Bangkok, Thailand, July 23-Aug. 2.
If the Henrietta, N.Y. native advances past the try-out, she will take part in the training camp July 9-22. The training camp will begin in Colorado Springs before heading to Thailand for friendly games against other national teams.
“I’m so excited for Moe Moe (Johnson). She had an amazing freshman season and made a huge impact on our program and the ACC, being named a top 20 player in the league,” said head coach Katie Meier. This invitation recognizes her as one of top players in t e nation and I know she will perform well.”
Johnson is coming off a stellar freshman campaign where she was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman Team as well as a conference honorable mention.
For the Hurricanes, Johnson was the team leader in most statistical categories, including scoring (12.8 ppg), free throw percentage (.825), rebounding (7.1 rpg), assists (4.1 apg), steals (2.7 spg) and blocks (1.0 bpg).
Among ACC players, the guard/forward ranked in the top-10 in assists (fourth), free throw percentage (second), steals (seventh) and assist/turnover ratio (1.3, fifth).
Johnson a 2008 McDonald’s All-American was invited to be the U-18 trials a year ago, but declined the invitation due to prior academic commitments.
