Hurricanes to Play Barry in Women's Basketball Exhibition

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team welcomes the Barry University Buccaneers of the NCAA Division II Sunshine State Conference to the BankUnited Center on Saturday, November 7. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

The University of Miami women’s basketball team will be playing in their first game of the season as it faces the Division II Barry Buccaneers from nearby Miami Shores.
A year ago the two programs met in a preseason exhibition as the Hurricanes held on for a 52-49 victory. In the win, then Miami freshman Shenise Johnson led the way with 16 points, nine in the second half. The Canes held off the Bucs in part to 17 steals.
Johnson, who was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and earned an All-ACC Honorable Mention nod, will lead the Hurricanes this season. Saturday night will also be the first opportunity to see the Miam’s freshman class of Lee Anna Osei, Hannah Shaw, Morgan Stroman, Shanel Williams and Stefanie Yderstrom.
A Look at the Buccaneers
Barry enters Sunday night’s game with 2-0 record, both preseason exhibitions. The Bucs have defeated Broward (88-32) and Miami-Dade (88-61) on Oct. 29 and Nov. 2 respectively.
The Buccaneers are led by Mariesa Greene who is averaging 26.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Jennifer Lopez and Tilde Ahlin score 12.5 and 9.0 points per game respectively.
Barry is averaging 88.0 points and 46.0 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 47.5 percent (58-122) from the floor, 39.5 percent (17-43) from beyond the arc and 75.4 (43-57) from the free throw line. The Buccaneers also register 13.5 steals and 7.5 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 46.5 points per game and a shooting percentage of 28.0 (37-132).
