Miami to Host Wake Forest on Super Sunday

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will host the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest at the BankUnited Center, Sunday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Miami struggles to shoot the ball in their last outing against Georgia Tech, as they finished the game with a season-low 26.4 shooting percentage. However, two underclassmen stepped up and played key roles in the road game. Freshman Sylvia Bullock seeing the most minutes in nearly a month was very aggressive both on offense and defense. She continue would drive against the tough Tech defense. The Anchorage, Alaska native ended the evening with five points. Stepping up defensively for Miami was sophomore guard Briyana Blair. The Orlando native was a constant annoyance for the Yellow Jacket offense, often tipping ball in the passing lane and drawing charges all night.
Freshman Riquna Williams and sophomore Epiphany Woodson led the Hurricanes with 10 points apiece in Atlanta.
A Look at Wake Forest
Wake Forest enters Sunday afternoon’s game with an 13-5 record. However, both the Demon Deacons and the Hurricanes enter this contest will one conference victory. Wake Forest defeated Boston College, 52-48 on Jan. 15.
The Demon Deacons are led by Alex Tchangoue who is averaging 14.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Corinne Groves and Brittany Waters score 13.3 and 12.7 points per game respectively. Wake Forest is averaging 68.4 points and 37.8 rebounds per game as a team. It is shooting 39.0 percent (449-1152) from the floor, 30.7 percent (110-358) from beyond the arc and 66.4 (223-336) from the free throw line.
The Demon Deacons also register 13.3 steals and 3.1 blocked shots per outing, while holding their opponents to 57.1 points per game and a shooting percentage of 36.3 (367-1010).
The Series
Both Miami and Wake Forest come into Super Bowl Sunday with one win in conference play. Miami won over NC State, while Wake Forest overcame Boston College.
The all-time series between these two teams is knotted at three games apiece, dating back to 1983. In their last match-up, Feb. 24, 2008, the Demon Deacons defended their home court with a 50-45 victory.
