CORAL GABLES – The NCAA East Regional, hosted by North Carolina A&T, will see 11 Miami Hurricanes from the men’s and women’s track teams participate, May 29-30 at Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C.
Finishing in the top five in running and field events as well as the top three among relays secures a spot in the NCAA National Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., from June 10-13.
The Hurricane coaching staff determined its declarations this past weekend and Miami will have nine women and two men that will compete in 11 different events this May 29-30.
Rankings this week reflect the declared athletes for the four regional meets being held this weekend. The women’s squad is currently ranked No. 19 in the USTFCCCA poll.
Three-time All-American, Murielle Ahoure is the top-ranked woman in the region in the 200-meter dash and stands at No. 3 in the 100-meters. She is also a member of the seventh-ranked 4×100 relay and the No. 4 4×400 relay.
Earlier this year, Ahoure won the NCAA National Championship in the indoor 60-meter dash and earned All-America honors in the indoor 200-meters. The Bristow, Va. native also won the 100 and 200-meter ACC Championships in April.
Kristy Whyte will be competing in the 200-meter dash at the East Regional for the second straight season. She will also join Ahoure, Tara Thomas, and Nene Kamate in the 4×100 relay and is one of six women that may represent the Hurricanes in the 4×400 relay. Junior Deandra Doyley will also return to the NCAA East Regional for the second consecutive year as she will compete in both the long and triple jumps. She will be joined in the long jump by freshman Brittni Finch, who earned all-ACC honors with Doyley in the event this season.

Tameka and Brown hold the No.4 and No. 5 regional rankings in the event. However, Takecia Jameson and Brown are both All-Americans after their performance at the NCAA National Championships a season ago, in their freshmen campaign. Takecia Jameson was also the 2008 World Junior Champion in this event.
